East Nashville’s Turkey and the Wolf Icehouse – A Restaurant Review

Me at Turkey and the Wolf

I’ll admit that I’m a bit skeptical when a popular restaurant from a different city opens up a new location in Nashville. Sometimes those spots can be a bit overhyped and kind of bland, but that isn’t the case at all with Turkey and the Wolf.

Turkey and the Wolf is an award-winning restaurant that first opened in New Orleans. Given that New Orleans is known for its outstanding food culture, any restaurant that can impress there is doing something right.

Since we love New Orleans cuisine, we knew we had to check out the Turkey and the Wolf location in East Nashville.

The restaurant absolutely made my list of the best places to eat in East Nashville. Here’s why.

A New Orleans Favorite Opens in East Nashville

The chicken pot pie empanada

Turkey and the Wolf has a very distinct kitschy style. The seating area is mostly outdoors, and while it’s a no-frills kind of place, it’s lots of fun.

We were worried that we might not be able to get a table because Turkey and the Wolf is so popular and the restaurant doesn’t take reservations. However, since we visited during the middle of the week on a fall day, there weren’t any crowds. It got a bit busier as lunch got into full swing. I would imagine that you’d definitely have to wait a bit on the weekends or on holidays.

You order at the counter, and while the menu is limited, everything on it is outstanding. Options are mostly sandwiches–cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, and even a couple ice cream sandwiches. Plus, there are a few sides offered as well.

My husband got the collard green melt, and I got the fried bologna sandwich. I expected to like his sandwich the most, but I actually think mine was better. The housemade hot mustard and crunchy chips made the sandwich absolutely perfect. We also tried out the chicken pot pie empanada, which I would order again.

I gave the drink menu a try too and ordered the frozen marg made with a little Mountain Dew. I don’t order drinks everywhere, but I would order that one again, too.

The items on the menu are fun and playful, but they’re also executed perfectly.

Turkey and the Wolf is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I didn’t get a chance to try out the breakfast menu yet, but I would be surprised if it’s any less delicious than the regular menu.

Is Turkey and the Wolf Worth a Visit?

The laid-back atmosphere and excellent food make you feel like you’ve stumbled across a neighborhood secret gem. So much effort must have gone into Turkey and the Wolf, but it seems effortlessly good.

Even if Turkey and the Wolf has a line, I’d say that it’s worth waiting. You will still be thinking about your meal days later.

It can get a bit pricey if you order multiple items, but the portion sizes are fairly large, at least for the sandwiches. So, you could make it a reasonably priced meal by just picking one thing to order. It’s impossible to order anything bad here.

I fully plan on heading back to Turkey and the Wolf on a regular basis!

Turkey and the Wolf is located at 800 Meridian St., Nashville, TN 37207. You can find their opening hours and menu on their website.
