Get a Cup of Coffee at Flora + Fauna in Nashville

Flora + Fauna

Last updated: 12/20/24

Finding cute coffee shops in East Nashville isn’t difficult. There’s no lack of choices, and new spots seem to open up all the time. Flora + Fauna in Highland Yards is one of the relatively recent additions to the coffee scene.

After passing by Flora + Fauna on a frequent basis (and adding it to my 2023 Nashville Bucket List), I was finally able to stop by for a visit. I’m happy to report that it doesn’t disappoint.

Flora + Fauna is more of a cafe than a coffee shop. There’s a menu with breakfast and lunch options including salads and sandwiches. When you walk in, you order at the counter, and then your order is brought to your table. I just tried out a blueberry scone during my visit, but I’m interested in going back to try out the biscuits and gravy.

The owners of the cafe are committed to creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly restaurant. When you order, it’s obvious that the food here is made fresh from ingredients that are local and seasonal. The cafe has been open for less than a year, so they’re still in the process of working things out fully, but they do a decently good job of using sustainable materials in the cafe. There’s definitely less disposable and single-use waste here than you’ll find at some other coffee shops and eateries.

The space itself is bright and welcoming. Like many of Nashville’s trendy spots, the cafe is also full of plants. (I don’t know how long it will be trendy for restaurants and businesses to fill every available surface with greenery, but I’m on board for as long as it lasts.)

You could definitely go to Flora + Fauna if you needed a space to study or work from your laptop. When you visit, you’ll see multiple people doing just that.

Personally, I’d rather meet up with a friend to chat rather than try to work there. I did bring my laptop when I visited, but I need a quieter atmosphere to focus. On the weekends, the cafe is so popular that there are people walking in and out constantly. No one else seemed to have trouble concentrating though, so it really depends on the work environment you need.

Either way, you should definitely add Flora + Fauna to your list of places to visit in Nashville. The space is beautiful, and it’s nice to have another unique coffee spot in the neighborhood. Flora + Fauna has a completely different feel from any of the other coffee shops in the area. Just walking in the door will instantly lift your mood.

Flora + Fauna is located at 747 Douglas Avenue, Suite 107C, Nashville, TN 37207. Check out their website to see their hours and menu.
