Step Back in Time at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum

Last updated: 12/23/24
Several weeks ago when I was looking for free things to do in Nashville, I came across the Tennessee Agricultural Museum. Unlike most of the museums in Nashville, there isn’t too much information about the Tennessee Agricultural Museum online, so I didn’t know what to expect. It turned into a fun outing though!
The museum has a collection of thousands of artifacts related to farming and home life from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors get a chance to see how farming families would have lived during the time period. There are also displays with information about the history of farming in Tennessee.

Near the entrance is a section of toys and books related to farming for children to play with. These are new toys (not historical), but I’m already looking forward to when my little one is old enough to play with some of the toys and then we’re able to look at some of the real farm objects together.
Besides the two-story museum, the site has an heirloom garden outdoors and historic cabins. Our visit was during the winter, so I didn’t get to check out the heirloom garden. The cabins were interesting to look at, and I saw people out walking on the wooded trail behind the cabins.

The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, but they have special events on Saturdays about once a quarter.
The museum is located in the Ellington Agricultural Center in Brentwood. I got a little lost driving around the complex, so I’d suggest staying on Merchant Drive until you see the parking lot for the Tennessee Agricultural Museum instead of driving through everything else.
