Try Out the Poboys at Spicy Boy’s in East Nashville

Spicy Boy’s

After several years of living in south Mississippi, we’re big fans of cajun and creole cuisine. While I’m still on the search for a decent King Cake here, we have found a couple different places to get poboys.

When Spicy Boy’s opened up in East Nashville last year with their Saints flag and LSU flag out front, we knew that we had to give them a try. It just took us longer than we expected to get there, but we finally did.

Inside the restaurant, you order at the front counter before finding a seat. Seating space inside is pretty limited, but there’s a courtyard that looks like it would be a lot of fun when the weather is nice outside in the spring and fall. The courtyard also seems like the perfect place to enjoy a crawfish boil.

For our starter, we tried out the roast beef debris fries. I’ll be honest, these were not my favorite. Next time, we’ll try out the andouille sausage or the boudin as a starter instead.

The shrimp poboy

Let me tell you, though, when the poboys arrived at our table, they did not disappoint. The bread used in the poboys is Leidenheimer French bread, so it definitely has that New Orleans taste when you take a bite. I got a shrimp poboy, which is my typical poboy order no matter where I’m at. The shrimp was breaded and had just the right level of crispiness to it. This might be the best poboy we’ve found in Nashville so far (although I’ll continue trying poboys any time they’re on the menu somewhere).

If you’re looking for a bit of south Louisiana or south Mississippi in Nashville, Spicy Boy’s is one of the best places to go. They even usually have a limited menu available during the Saints games. I think they also do special things during LSU games as well. I assume it would be fun to sit at the bar and watch a game there if you’re into football.

Mardi Gras season has already started and crawfish season will be starting soon. Now is the perfect time to check out Spicy Boy’s if you’ve never been before or if it’s been a while since your last visit. Also, if you get the chance, make sure to grab a snowball across the street at Icy Boys.

Spicy Boy’s is located at 924 McFerrin Ave, Nashville, TN 37206. See their website for their menu and opening hours. Spicy Boy’s Instagram account is where they tend to share their upcoming events and current specials.
