FatBelly Pretzel Review – A Welcomed Addition to East Nashville

We were so sad when Status Dough announced that they were closing their Nashville location, but the news that FatBelly Pretzel would be opening in the building helped make up for that loss.
I looked for FatBelly Pretzel every time I went to the East Nashville Farmers’ Market over the summer. I know I wasn’t the only one because there was always a line. Sometimes, certain pretzels even sold out 15 minutes after the market opened! My preferred order is the salted pretzel with cheddar cheese dip.
We made our way to FatBelly Pretzel Bakery & Deli the first Saturday that they were opened. All of their other fans showed up too, but they were prepared. My husband got the salted pretzel with cheddar cheese dip, and I branched out to try the mozz & pepperoni pretzel. It tasted just as good as it looked! They somehow manage to get just the right combination of soft/chewy in each pretzel.
It’s hard to judge a new place during its opening weekend, but FatBelly Pretzel seems to be off to a good start. While we sat down inside to eat our pretzels, the counter never had a break in customers. It was just one person right after another.
My only complaint is that I don’t like the stools at the tables. They were too tall for me to rest my feet on the ground but not tall enough for me to place my feet on the first bar. Obviously, not everyone will have the same problem, and I don’t even know if those will be the permanent seating choices or whether the stools were just what they were using to begin with.
I’ve been back since opening weekend to get pretzels again, and the place always has people coming in. They’ve expanded their offering to include sandwiches and salads. The atmosphere is super fun and welcoming. I still hate the stools at the tables, but the pretzels are so good that I am still going to keep coming back.
